There are many factors why a person loses hair. It could range from heredity, hormone changes, side effects of a certain medication, and medical conditions. Though hair usually grows back on the latter, it is essential for any person to know the different medical conditions that causes hair loss.

#1 Lupus

It is an autoimmune disease that affects different organs of the body which could include the skin. The scalp will scar and the hair fall out.

#2 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma

It is a cancer of the lymph tissues on the body. Though not a very significant symptom, hair loss could also occur to patients with the said condition.

#3 Hyperthyroidism

This is a type of thyroid disturbance where there is a hyperactivity of the thyroid that usually results to symptoms like weight loss, nervousness, enlargement of the thyroid, insomnia, and alopecia. Do not worry though because hair loss as a symptom of hyperthyroidism usually grows back.

#4 Hypothyroidism

A complete of opposite of hyperthyroidism; hypothyroidism is a condition where the thyroid is underactive. The hair root are undernourished when the person is diagnoses with hypothyroidism, this will eventually cause the hair shaft to brittle and break, thus causing hair loss. When treated, the hair usually grows back.

#5 Muscular Dystrophy

This is a genetic disease that causes muscle wasting and hair loss. In this condition, the muscle cells die thus depriving nutrients on the surface hair causing it to fall.

#6 Pituitary Diseases

The Pituitary glands control the release of six different hormones namely: the thyroid stimulating hormone, Luteinizing hormone, Prolactin, follicle stimulating hormone, adenocorticotropic hormone, and the growth hormone. Since these hormones are necessary for hair growth, a disruption on their levels can cause hair loss.

#7 Diabetes

This is a disorder when the body lacks insulin to regulate blood sugar levels. For that reason, the normal functioning of the skin is slowed thus wound healing is slower as well as hair regrowth.

#8 Malnutrition

The hair needs nutrients to grow healthy. When a person lacks nutrition due to malnutrition or anorexia nervosa, the hair gets weak and brittle which will eventually cause it to die, break, and fall off.

#9 Alopecia Areata

It is an autoimmune disease where the body destroys its own hair follicles causing it to weaken or die.

#10 Follicultis

Every strand of hair is made up of a hair root and a hair shaft which is placed within a hair follicle. When hair follicles get an infection, a condition called folliculitis, the scalp tends to scar and the hair fall.

There are more diseases that cause alopecia. If you experience any of these diseases or has been shedding more hair than you normally does, go see a doctor immediately and seek for a medical advice regarding the treatment of hair loss.
